TYPES OF MOTORISED RISER/RECLINER

Although there are many different styles of riser/recliner most of them fit into one of the four categories below:

1) The Single-Motored Riser Recliner: this chair uses one motor for all its movements; footrest, backrest and chair lift. The footrest usually rises first and then the back reclines after a certain point. These chairs are simple to use as they usually only have two or three buttons on the handset. However, you are unable to operate the back independently of the footrest. Furthermore, they usually do not recline as far back as a dual-motored chair.

2) The Wallhugger: this chair is usually a single motor (as above) but has the benefit of sliding forward on its frame when it reclines and therefore does not need to be more than a couple of inches away from the wall.

3) The Dual-Motored Riser Recliner; as the name suggests, this chair uses two motors to control the rise, footrest and back rest. Essentially the backrest has its own motor and can therefore be operated entirely independently of the footrest. This affords you more positions. Most of these chairs are able to recline to virtually horizontal.

4) The Tilt-in-Space (2-way action); these chairs maintain the angle between seat and back rest as they recline and thus minimise the amount of re-positioning the user needs to do when reclining or when bringing the back upright. Furthermore, they tend to bring the feet up higher than the pelvis when raising the footrest. This position can help tired and swollen feet.
